5 things you probably didn't know

1. Ford's stainless steel headlight rings from 1949 through 1956. All makes and models interchange.
2. 1949 ford cars had 16inch steel wheels for only one year. Small ford pattern. Making them rare and awesome.
3. 1949 fords hoods were designed poorly causing them to buckle easily at the rear hing area. Most guys use a 50 ford hood. They are much stronger.
4.  1949-50 ford woody wagons used 1949-1950 mercury outside door handles.
5. 1949 to 1951 ford f1 pick up trucks often had 1949 mercury radios installed in them from the factory.

Just in case you were wondering.

East coast styled 34.

I am taking time to visit Titus about once a week. There is a group I car guys that get together and talk shop. Anyway. Here a pic of Titus's 34 ford coupe. Molded rear fenders, channelled all pointing to early 50's influence. Not to mention the hemi and Lasalle transmission combo. It was a blast.

Shoebox inspiration

Hope to copy this for my 51 shoebox.

Suedes swap

Chrome tips....it's the little things

I ordered new chome tips for my exhausts this week and that are a bit bigger than "pencil tips" but should work out great.
I also started to weld in the trunk pieces so that i can close the trunk and have it latch.

Also got new windshield rubber and rear window rubber. So when I can tackle that I will update with pictures. I expect it to be quite an experience.

Fender and hood surgery

So I sold the front clip o the Merc and replaced it with some nicer parts. Or so I thought. My 49 merc driver side front fender had been hit right near the headlight.

This caused the fender to bow up and cause all kinds of problems. Luckily eyeball helped me out and showed me to  how to work it out. We did have to make some relief it's that will need to be welded but it is close now.

Also, I had never been happy with my hood repair.  I it out the replacement piece and will be fabricating a second one and taking my time to get it right.

Best car at VTF

There was really great car at VTF and it wasn't even an invited car. I didn't spend a lot of time with it because it didn't need it. But it was a 32 from Wisconsin

Old chrome throughout the car, inside moldings, rear axle, front and rear wishbones, engine pieces, rear fender filler pieces
Vintage engine: nailhead with three carbs, chrome generator, etc
Really period hot rod

Vintage torque fest

First time I had spent significant time in Iowa. I went to vintage torque fest and it was a really cool show.

Didn't hurt that I was able to rise down in eyeballs 32 roadster.

Pics galore.

Merc update.

I finally got to put some time in the garage to work on the Merc. With the cold temps and no real good heater, even in my attached garage, I haven't been real motivated.

So, now that its getting warmer I decided it was time to get dirty.

I am beginning to clean all the surface rust that is all over the car from the open transport across country and removed the broken windshield so that I can replace it with new glass.

It starts and runs pretty easily, but hasn't been run long enough to know how it will handle on the road. So I need to get it out and test it out.
